Czech skaters at ME Masters in Switzerland

14.09.2017

On Sunday, September 10 2017, despite of rain with snow and a temperature of 0 ° C almost 400 skaters from 25 countries came together in Swiss village of Maloja near St. Moritz to compare their strengths on the Inline Engadin Marathon - a race that was part of the Swiss skate tour and at the same time the European Masters Championship.

In the rainy lower altitude the leaders of the race crossed the S-chanf finish line in a fabulous time of 1:05 - Yves Reist (SUI) on the first place followed by Christian Kromoser (AUT) and Guillaume Mallevou (FRA). The fastest woman was Katja Ulbrich (GER) with a time of 1:14.
In the Masters Championship the Czech Republic was represented by Hana Duspivová (TEMPISH Inline team, category U40W *); in the U40 category Martin Horák (KSBM Praha), Petr Vanc and Václav Pulda (both KSB Liberec) and in the U50 category Jaroslav Zika (ISC Prague) and Petr Choc (KSB Liberec).
Due to the very strong wind, many skaters were forced to give up the race and unfortunately this is what happened to our Jaroslav Zik. Vaclav Pulda finished the race, but he crossed the finish line under heavy hypothermia and ended up in care of paramedics. Hana Duspivová was the best Czech skater and Petr Vanc was the ninth in their category.

Hana Duspivová commented on the race: "The track is slightly downhill after the start, followed by bends and one serpentine down the hill – it was snowing here and there was plenty of water on the road and the melting snow. Here a I lost the leading group of women. Then the race was not about speeding up and catching up the girls - it was all about getting to the finish and beating the terrible winter. It can be compared to cross-country skiing - you go 50km / h with snow and your face is whipping lashing by snow – but it was shock for the second weekend in September. I did not have gloves, only protectors not even a hat, so I was trying to keep the position for over half the race, which I did. I'm very happy with the result, even though I've had my worst time. "

All skaters have performed heroic performances, whether it was a championship race or a complementary race in the Fitness categories, and all skaters have tried their maximum. This year's Engadine Marathon was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
